Red eye is a common presenting symptom in general practice with several reasonably benign and often self-limiting causes and a few serious causes not to be missed. This video is a 10-minute overview of my approach to the red eye in general practice.

    Did you mention fluoroscein staining for examination? I had a chap a couple of weeks back with a really irritated red eye and ED had missed his corneal ulcer because they didn’t fluoroscein stain. Always quite satisfying to see them shrink over a few days, too. 🙂
